The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics University of Houston Student Chapter has made remarkable progress and growth over the past two years. The Houston Chapter of AIAA was reestablished in 2015 after a ten-year hiatus to fill the need for aerospace and aviation interests of students. We provide our members with the tools they need to succeed through valuable networking opportunities, hosting professional speakers and researchers in the industry to talk to our members, creating competitive project based teams, and providing unique company tour experiences. We also conduct outreach by exposing young children to the possibility of pursuing STEM careers through events such as the Mars Rover Celebration-a competition for elementary and middle school students to thoughtfully design and build their own mock Mars rover. We hope to collaborate with local Houston public schools by creating and hosting small rocket workshops to inspire the next generation in pursuing a field in STEM.
